A Classic Shaker Kitchen, Combe Down

Posted by Bath Bespoke on 21 December 2015

We were delighted to design, manufacture and install a beautiful bespoke kitchen for a really nice family on Combe Down on the edge of Bath. The Bath Bespoke team were presented with some challenges: low ceilings, wonky floors and major damp issues to name but a few. But we persevered and loved the final result in this classic English kitchen with modern twists. We worked closely with our clients who had really keen eyes for detail, selecting custom-finished hinges and ironmongery. Their clever choice of colour-scheme ensured that this space felt bigger, fresher and much more calming than before. This kitchen was a great example of how time invested in researching and browsing mood images really does yield a reward in the end result.

Our cabinetry was handmade by Neil Castley, Dan Aldridge and Sam Drake. It was traditionally made, with solid hardwood doors and frames. Our carcasses were our preferred high-grade birch plywood, triple clear matt lacquered by our clever finishing team for ultimate durability. The central kitchen island was a really lovely piece of minimalist furniture in the shaker style. By leaving the design of the base open, the island looked light and elegant, whilst still providing plenty of storage.

We were delighted to assist with theĀ interior design of the space, which became like many kitchens of our age, a true hub for the happenings of young families. As part of the same project we also manufactured a bespoke casement window which helped create the lovely classic but clean appeal of the space.
