Crafting a ledged and braced garage door
Posted by Bath Bespoke on 30 January 2018
For one of our latest projects, we were asked to craft new garage doors and frames for a beautiful listed property in Clifton. These doors were crafted to match the existing joinery and featured a bi folding design.
Traditional garage door
Arkadiusz used Accoya (an environmentally friendly wood that has been specifically developed for exterior use, being virtually rot resistant and resistant to warping) to craft the doors which featured a traditional framed ledged and braced design.
This type of door construction is suited to large heavy doors like garage and barn doors, as they are incredible sturdy. Their design is based on three horizontal rails (ledges) on the rear of the door complete with diagonal braces, and then a series of vertical boards to make the front face of the door.
Like all of our projects, these doors were custom made to exacting measurements. We then primed and finished the doors in house.
Once the doors were crafted, Rob and Lukasz from the paint team primed the doors and then Adam spray painted them in ‘off black’.
This made for a really visually stunning result! I hope to share some images with you once they’ve been fitted by the site team.
