2019 | Room to grow

Posted by Bath Bespoke on 26 November 2019

Hot on the heels of an award-winning 2018, we have seen our portfolio develop into large scale builds and renovations having been sought out to work on some particularly noteworthy projects throughout 2019.

As we start planning for the festive season and 2020 beyond, we thought we’d take a look back at the year that has seen us tackle the first Zollinger roof in the UK alongside developing house renovations with exacting standards. We have been fortunate enough to work with prestigious clients on grand restorations throughout the year as well as taking the opportunity to expand our business across the South West…

Zollinger roof

Zollinger roofHaving already completed windows for this large scale house renovation, we were invited by John Perkins Construction working alongside Designscape Architects to take on the challenge of constructing and support the installation of a Zollinger roof. This would be the first roof of its type in the UK.

Years in the planning, months in the making, this project was an engineering feat of millimetre-perfect precision on a grand scale. This particular roof required an exceptionally steep 50-degree pitch to match the existing roofline and was crafted with traditional mortise and tenon joints for inherent strength. Constructed at our Winsley workshop, piece by piece, and transported to site in sections (a logistical feat in itself) to be craned into position, this self-supporting structure demanded absolute precision to ensure its interlocking components married perfectly together to support the overall structure – a stray millimetre here or there would have undermined the entire structural integrity.

The end result? To our knowledge, the only Zollinger roof on this scale in the UK. A piece of absolutely incredible teamwork from all involved, showcasing the breath-taking combination of exceptional engineering, traditional craftsmanship and beautiful, natural materials for generations to come.

Babington House

We are proud to have recently been appointed to work on Babington House’s property renovation.

As part of the Soho House group, Babington House is a country house, hotel and members’ club in the heart of Somerset. A prestigious client, we are working closely with the Soho House team to restore sash windows throughout the main building to their former glory.

Listed manor house

We began our working relationship with this very special Grade II listed manor house four years ago when we were approached by the owners to be part of this ambitious restoration project.

Taking the time to understand the nuances of the project and the client’s expectations and needs is core to our approach and absolutely crucial with a project of this scale. We worked closely with the client to propose joinery options and highlight the implications of going down various design routes, ensuring that decisions made were informed choices which shouldn’t require compromise further down the line.

With the aim of sympathetically reinstating the property to its original styling, we helped to restore and replace some of the original Georgian windows, carefully copying and recreating the mouldings and original workings. Taking their cue from the property’s Georgian heritage, doors with panel detailing were custom-made, installed and finished.

An exceptional classic kitchen

Handcrafted with care and designed with breath-taking attention to detail, this classic kitchen was designed, handmade and installed to combine contemporary elegance with period detailing, seamlessly blending with its listed architectural surroundings.

The aim was timeless elegance – a sympathetic, subtly grand space in keeping with the building and its character. Compromise on quality, finish or installation was not an option, and the detailed, bespoke nature of this project demanded unrivalled attention to detail, commitment to excellence and the expertise and experience to deal with the inevitable challenges that emerged along the way.

Arlberry Bespoke

Arlberry Bespoke showroom2019 saw our business develop across the South West with the addition of sister company Arlberry Bespoke.

Established in 2016 by furniture and interior designer, Jessica Davis, Arlberry Bespoke designed and supplied bespoke kitchens, wardrobes, dressing rooms and furniture. We had worked in partnership with Jessica since Arlberry was founded, with Bath Bespoke becoming Jessica’s preferred manufacturer in the local area.

In 2019 Jessica began to look for the right people to pass the business on to, following her relocation out of the area, and she approached us to pick up the mantle. We added the company to our portfolio in May 2019 and have since developed the business into a sister company to Bath Bespoke, offering exceptional custom-made furniture, kitchens, joinery and high-quality wood flooring from our showroom based just outside Clifton.

We will be downing tools for the Christmas break on Friday 20th December and back in the studio and workshop on Monday 6th January 2020.
