Georgian Townhouse Renovation

This dignified Georgian townhouse was in need of extensive renovation to restore its elegant period detailing and handsome proportions to their former glory…

We enjoyed a longstanding relationship with this beautiful Georgian townhouse in central Bath.

Purchased by clients relocating from London to Bath, this was to be their first owned home and we were honoured to help bring their renovation aspirations to life. Working in close partnership, we designed and handcrafted fitted furniture, a bespoke kitchen, wooden flooring, sash windows, a new front door and bathroom cabinetry to bring a new lease of life to this tired property.

Fitted furniture and flooring

Bespoke storage solutions were required throughout the property to meet the demands of modern-day living but our clients were keen these pieces of furniture stay in keeping with the Georgian heritage of the property – detailing and proportions of bookcase cabinets and fitted wardrobes offered a nod to the grandeur of the period while brass and gilt finishes gave a decadent finish.

Throughout the property oak plank flooring was laid with a dark oil finish to unite the rooms and provide a practical flooring solution suitable for a hardworking home. The inimitable character, warmth and beauty of a wooden floor introduced an element of textural character and the oil finish catches the light crossing the wood grain beautifully.

Compact kitchen curves

The kitchen space presented its own unique challenges due to the hexagonal shape of the room.

Carefully designed by Mia Marquez and handcrafted by our skilled craftsmen, bespoke cabinetry and a distinctive island to follow the angles of the room were designed to optimise the available space whilst remaining sympathetic to the heritage of the building stylistically.

Framed doors finished in Little Greene paint took their cue from existing door panelling, black granite worktops added a contemporary note and bespoke crown moulding tied the scheme to its context.

Beautiful bathrooms

Three bathrooms in the property needed modernising and whilst bathrooms are a functional space first and foremost, that doesn’t mean they can’t hold their own in the style stakes.

Designed for optimal comfort and luxury with tactile but durable materials, intelligent storage solutions and a keen eye for detail, a neutral palette and clean lines were brought together throughout these ensuite bathrooms to create light, airy and relaxing spaces, modernised, but in keeping with the period styling.

Doorway design & new sash windows

A traditional front door was designed and handcrafted from FSC® certified hardwood and finished with elegant brass ironmongery, including a distinctive knocker, to ensure the property upheld its Georgian curb appeal.

Delapitated sash windows were restored or replaced throughout the property replicating original detailing with care to ensure the overall design remained true to the architect’s original aesthetic. These timber sash windows were handcrafted in the traditional way, with full mortise and tenon joints but combined with cutting-edge glazing options to ensure they delivered to 21st century thermal standards.
