Batheaston
The goal was to improve the thermal efficiency of this beautiful period property in Batheaston. Existing windows were all single-glazed, resulting in very high heating bills. The current owners had approached several local and national joinery firms, looking for a way to increase the comfort levels of their family home.
We had previously worked on earlier projects inside this property and were delighted when we were invited to advise on this much bigger, external joinery work. The current owners asked us for help with their windows and doors, around 60 in total. We proposed keeping the new joinery as close as possible to the original doors and windows. It was important to us that the design was sympathetic to the architecture of the period property. We suggested new windows and doors that gave the maximum glass size with low profile sections and delicate mouldings. We re-designed the configuration of the glazing bars to bring consistency to the property.
All the windows and doors now have a consistent, cohesive look throughout the property. We achieved this by keeping the glass pane proportions the same, the mouldings the same and all with double-glazed units. All of the glazing was our Bath Bespoke Conservation System. The defining features of this system are high-performance, double-glazed units with a 16mm wide glazing bar. The glass is puttied in, exactly as it would have been done 200 years ago. The windows and doors are all made from Accoya and painted in Farrow & Ball‘s Wimborne White. From The Anvil hardware has been used throughout, their beautiful handles and latches are the perfect finishing touch.
