Restoration on an Ambitious Scale…

We began our working relationship with this very special Grade II listed manor house four years ago when we were approached by the owners to be part of this ambitious restoration project.

Unloved for decades and having survived extensive flooding in the 1960s, this building was a substantial undertaking few would have tackled and consequently the clients who chose to take it on had exacting standards few joineries could meet. We were approached to be involved and took on the challenge.

We thrive on projects like this – having the opportunity to be involved in a renovation of this scale with a client only willing to settle for the highest standards in every aspect of the job is a really exciting prospect for us. And being hand-picked for the job, because of our exceptional level of commitment to what we do, a huge compliment.

Where do we start?

Taking the time to understand the nuances of the project and the client’s expectations and needs is core to our approach and absolutely crucial with a project of this scale. We worked closely with the client to propose joinery options and highlight the implications of going down various design routes, ensuring that decisions made were informed choices which shouldn’t require compromise further down the line.

Independently managing the entire restoration, the client was personally committed to every element of the restoration and we worked in partnership throughout the entire process from design, installation and finishing, to all the challenges that inevitably come along the way.

We take great pride in, and responsibility for, the product supplied and key elements of this restoration required a highly specialised and meticulous approach to joinery in order to create unmissable elements, which integrated seamlessly with other aspects of the property.

Sash windows and panelled doors

With the aim of sympathetically reinstating the property to its original styling, we have helped to restore and replace some of the original Georgian windows, carefully copying and recreating the mouldings and original workings. Each window features single glazing conservation glass and thin Astragal bars and was fitted on site with an exacting attention to detail.

Taking their cue from the property’s Georgian heritage, doors with panel detailing were custom-made, installed and finished. The classic, six-panel formation doors were handcrafted from Accoya, an environmentally-friendly, solid-wood ideal for demanding applications such as windows and doors and finished with cock bead detailing.

Working in partnership

Our team’s dedication to making sure every element of the design and production is executed to the highest standards borders on the fanatical – be it design, materials, manufacture, finishing or installation – our commitment to each and every project is undisputable. And when we have the chance to be involved in a restoration project such as this, our non-compromising approach to quality and integrity in design truly comes into its own.

We became very much part of the restoration team on this project, working alongside fellow trades to ensure a common design and construction ethos was woven throughout the project. Working with specialists in various fields, we pooled our knowledge, skill and experience to ensure a well-rounded approach and that considered solutions to challenges were put forward. An aspect of our approach valued by the client:

Tom, James and Brett and everyone involved dedicated manhours in abundance to this project to ensure we brought the client’s vision to life and that the process as a whole was supported from beginning to end, and beyond; the bespoke nature of our business translates into every element – product and service – we will help wherever we can along the way working in partnership with the client.

And the inevitable queries, wonderings and “could we just…” along the way? We’ve always loved a challenge. More often than not, they’re an opportunity to take the product to the next level.

There’s more to come…

Alongside the joinery, we’ll be working with this client in 2019 to create a beautiful kitchen that will sit in the former servant’s quarters. Watch this space…
