Bold and beautiful Wiltshire family home
We were delighted to work alongside Designscape Architects on the creation of a very exciting new-build property near Bradford-on-Avon.
Bath Bespoke was initially brought on board to provide advice and guidance on the technical design and cost implications of a sizeable and complicated Zollinger roof. We were also consulted regarding the property’s oak external joinery. Over time our role evolved and we were also involved in the internal joinery, cabinetry and flooring throughout the home.
We were integral to the design of all of the joinery from the planning stages onwards. We advised on the best materials and construction methods to use and served as a crucial, knowledgeable link between the architect and the builders.
The main challenge we had was finding bits of wood big enough to do the job! The desired section sizes for the joinery were too big for any of our UK timber merchants. We made a trip to Bavaria to select what we needed from a saw mill supplier; the beautiful European prime oak turned up on a German road train truck within two weeks, and was of exceptional quality. Taking measures to successfully and safely move this huge timber took some time, as did installing a 20m long roof in four pieces by crane!
We loved helping to create this unique, special home for a fabulous family of four. The painstaking attention-to-detail in the design and build process shows in each and every aspect of this spectacular house – and the clients are over the moon: they keep telling us it wouldn’t have been possible, and definitely nowhere near as much fun, without Bath Bespoke.
