Breathing new life into period properties whilst taking our cue from existing character details is something we’ve become adept at over the years.<\/h2>\n
We\u00a0combine the best of contemporary, sustainable manufacturing techniques and materials with heritage detailing and traditional craftsmanship, and when we were approached to help bring a new lease of life to this townhouse in the heart of Bath we tackled the kitchen, flooring, sash windows and bedroom and living room storage.<\/p>\n
Sash windows and parquet flooring<\/h2>\n

By handcrafting timber sash windows\u00a0in the traditional way, with full mortise and tenon joints, we ensure our joinery looks exactly how the original architect of your home intended and that crucial details remain authentic and high-quality.<\/p>\n
In this property, nine new sash windows across three bays were handcrafted with Accoya\u00a0frames (with a fifty-year timber guarantee), glazed with acoustic glass to minimise local traffic noise and\u00a0finished with brass ironmongery. Installed and finished with care, they flood the generous expanse of living room with the morning sun.<\/p>\n
Oak parquet flooring was added throughout the hallway and into the living room, laid in the classic herringbone\u00a0pattern and oiled for protection and durability as well as to preserve the natural beauty of the wood, it brings a new lease of life to a previously unloved area decked out in painted floorboards.<\/p>\n

The classic proportions and traditional elements of this Bath townhouse inspired a kitchen with a revitalised layout designed to give a nod to the property’s heritage.<\/p>\n
Authenticity in design is crucial in period properties to keep the aesthetic narrative consistent. A fitted kitchen wouldn’t be appropriate for this space, a relatively narrow room finished with beautiful French doors to one end and a striking, original fireplace, so a central island was mounted on feet and larder-style cupboards were nestled in alcoves to appear as freestanding pieces. Wall cabinets were set up high on the opposing wall and the island kept clear of the French doors to avoid cramping the space. Clear zoning for food preparation and cooking was introduced on one wall while the ‘larders’ provide ample storage and the central island, complete with breakfast bar stools, interlinked the zones of the room.<\/p>\n
A Blanco sink and black granite composite worktops, neutral textured tiles, unlacquered brass handles and an Olif brushed gold tap added contemporary, luxurious detail throughout.<\/p>\n

A pair of fitted wardrobes with a contemporary, minimal Shaker aesthetic and oak interior were incorporated into the bedroom to meet modern-day storage needs. Clean lines blended seamlessly with existing period detailing to provide unobtrusive yet essential storage in this master bedroom.<\/p>\n
In the living room, alcove cabinets and glass shelving added discreet storage and display for treasured collectables. Hardwood cabinets provided a valuable storage addition without overshadowing the grand period fireplace and floating glass shelves helped draw the eye up the\u00a0full height of the room.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
