The benefits of engineered wood flooring

Why choose engineered wood flooring?

If cared for, a wood floor is a lifetime investment; it will only improve with age over years to come and with the ability to restore and refurbish multiple times, the natural beauty of a wood floor can last a lifetime.

Engineered wood flooring combines multiple layers of timber with a solid wood veneer – cross ply layers are glued one on top of each other and finished with a top layer of solid wood which is then oiled.

Engineered flooring is our recommendation for wood flooring every time – a long lasting, versatile, resilient product with all the beauty and benefits of hardwood.

Oak, herringbone, larger format parquet floor

Long lasting | Never underestimate the life of an engineered wood floor. These boards can be sanded and refinished just like solid wood providing the ability to fix marks that occur over the years. You will generally be able to re-sand engineered wood up to five or six times.

Versatile | Engineered wood flooring can be used in rooms where moisture levels can be high such as bathrooms, kitchens, basements and conservatories because it its much less likely to warp than solid wood.

Designed to allow for wood expansion, engineered wood is also compatible with underfloor heating systems. It was created to be more stable than solid wood, which changes shape with fluctuations in relative humidity and temperature.

Large format, bespoke chevron parquet flooringStable | Thanks to its multi-layered core, engineered wood flooring is more resilient when the humidity changes. Wood is a hygroscopic substance, meaning that it naturally absorbs moisture, which causes it to swell. Equally, when humidity drops, the moisture evaporates and the wood shrinks. The construction of engineered boards limits this movement as conditions change ensuring greater stability throughout the floor.

All the benefits of hardwood | Visually, engineered wood flooring looks identical to solid wood flooring once installed, boasting all the beauty of the natural wood in a selection of finishes and styles.
