Bespoke Bookcases & Libraries
Bespoke bookcases and home libraries designed around your collection, your space and the way you live.
From fitted alcove shelving to a library spanning an entire room, we design, make and install furniture that brings books and belongings into the heart of your home. Each piece is made in our workshop near Bath, with proportions, materials and details tailored to its setting.
A home for your collection
A well-designed bookcase begins with what it needs to hold. Paperbacks, art books, vinyl records and CDs – like in our Georgian Townhouse project – each call for different shelf depths and spacing, while favourite objects may benefit from room to stand on their own.
We consider the size and weight of your collection, how you use it and how it might grow. Adjustable shelving can offer flexibility, while cupboards and drawers provide space for belongings you prefer to keep out of sight. The result is furniture that makes your collection easy to browse, enjoy and add-to over time.
Designed for the room
Bookcases can frame a fireplace, make use of an alcove or bring character to an otherwise empty wall. In a dedicated library, shelving can extend around the room, working with doorways, windows and the space needed for a comfortable place to read.
We consider the surrounding architecture, from skirting and cornices to ceiling heights and existing joinery. Painted cabinetry and traditional mouldings can complement a period interior, while natural timber, fine sections and simpler detailing can bring warmth to a contemporary space.
In our Grade I listed townhouse project in Bath, fitted library cabinetry provides generous shelving for the family’s books and incorporates a concealed door within the design.
Part of a wider scheme
Bookcases and libraries often form part of a larger refurbishment, connecting with a home office, living room or adjoining spaces. We work with private clients, architects and interior designers to consider shelving alongside desks, cupboards, doors and architectural joinery throughout a property.
Materials, finishes and details can carry from one room to another, giving the interior a sense of continuity while allowing each space its own character.
