Bold and beautiful Wiltshire family home

We were delighted to work alongside Designscape Architects on the creation of a very exciting new-build property near Bradford-on-Avon.

Initially brought on board to provide advice and guidance on the technical design and cost implications of a sizeable and complicated Zollinger roof and the property’s oak external joinery, our role on the property evolved as time went on to later include internal joinery, cabinetry and flooring throughout the home.

Integral to the design of all of the joinery from the planning stages onwards, we advised on the best materials and construction methods to use and served as a crucial, knowledgeable link between the architect and the builders.

Finding bits of wood big enough to do the job was the main challenge that we faced initially in the creation of this home. With the section sizes desired for the joinery being too big for any of our UK timber merchants, we made a trip to Bavaria to select what we needed from a saw mill supplier; the beautiful European prime oak that we selected turned up on a German road train truck within two weeks, and it was exceptional quality. Taking measures to successfully and safely move this huge timber took some time, as did installing a 20m long roof in four pieces by crane!

We love helping to create unique, special homes, and our customers for this Wiltshire build were a lovely family of four from Bath. The painstaking attention-to-detail in the design and build process shows in each and every aspect of this spectacular, and entirely unique, house – and the clients are over the moon: they keep telling us it wouldn’t have been possible, and definitely nowhere near as much fun, without Bath Bespoke.
